Abstract

The article deals with the peculiarities of teaching the Ukrainian language in the light of modern approaches. The emphasis is placed on the need to apply the text-centric approach when examining the syntax of a complex sentence in the 9th grade; The text is described as the main linguistic unit of the above-mentioned approach. The functions of the text concerning the development of a competent linguistic personality are determined, criteria of selection of educational texts for complex exercises are specified. Examples of exercises and tasks from the syntax of complex sentences aimed at forming the syntactic competence of students of the 9th form are presented.
