Abstract
The article covers the practical component of the competence-based approach implementation in the course of the Geography of Ukraine through the prism of the formation of geographical concepts as the first targeted conscious step towards the achievement of the certain level of competence. The model of the competence-based approach that allows to introduce the school complex at the geography lesson in the eighth grade was considered. Several aspects of the issues that coincide with the primary school, namely, the formation of a pupil’s personality model, whose competence will be sufficient to fulfil itself at the next educational levels and during the whole life were raised. An important role in the formation of the geographical competence is played by a geographical course Ukraine in the World: Nature, Population, which allows considering the spatial features of the territory, the population of Ukraine and its place in the world. Therefore, the practice of implementing the competence-based approach in this course is more than significant. On the basis of the model of the formation of the geographical competence, it is possible to find out that its formation must pass certain stages. Starting from some geographical concepts, it is noteworthy to apply to the academic activity that is conscious, constructive, systematic, and aimed at the self-development. Thus, in order to form the pupils’ specific geographic expertise, it is necessary to lay the base of knowledge and skills at the appropriate level. In the process of the formation of geographical competencies, an important role is played by the effectiveness of the geographical concepts definitions. For the purpose of its promoting, in terms of the competence-based approach, it is appropriate to form the geographical concepts using the appropriate algorithm, which consists of seven stages. This algorithm is the formation of geographical concepts and must be viewed through the prism of the competence-based approach model in the studying of geography in the eighth grade at the comprehensive secondary schools.
