Abstract
The article outlines the peculiarities of the formation of the reader's culture of the lyceum students in the lessons of the Ukrainian language. The data on the questioning of 10 grade students is given, which makes it possible to conclude that reading is not a priority for a significant number of students, but mainly serves as a relaxation function. It is emphasized that an important means of forming a reader's culture is the introduction of texts as a didactic material about the role of reading for a modern person, excerpts from works of contemporary writers, which contributes to increasing the students' motivation for reading. A powerful reserve develops students' skills in semantic reading - reading, aimed at understanding the semantic content of the text, whose purpose is not only in understanding the content of the text, but in the need to comprehend and evaluate the information, that is, to immerse themselves in the sense of the text to comprehend the text. as a means of forming a reader's culture, we consider the introduction of texts as a didactic material about the role of reading for a modern person, excerpts from works of contemporary writers, which contributes to increasing the motivation of students to read. One of the conditions for the formation of the student's reading culture is the systematic implementation of the semantic reading strategy and text-work in the Ukrainian language lessons.
