Abstract
The article states that a high-quality textbook on history today should be an integrated model of this educational process, which reflects its goals, principles, content, and technology. In this case, the textbook not only simulates the educational process, but also projects its implementation (gives the teacher the opportunity with the help of texts and methodical apparatus to build a modern effective competency-oriented educational process).Consequently, only by defining the initial positions on the development of critical thinking of students through the means of the study book, it is possible to apply productively some elements of the textbook that would ensure the realization of this goal. The article defines the main differences and advantages of this textbook and formulates some recommendations for the teacher to use it on the example of a new textbook on the history of Ukraine for the 10th grade (standard level) by authors O.Pometun and N.Gupan.
