Abstract
Psychological assistance of combatants: historical context and nowadays. The mental health of the Armed Forces is an important issue of both academic and public interest. The aims of this study are to assess the prevalence and risk factors for common mental disorders and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and compare the features of rehabilitation of combatants around the world. To develop PTSD, a person must have gone through a trauma. The affected combatants with war trauma experience problems in their living, working, learning, and social environments. Almost all people who go through trauma have some symptoms for a short time after the trauma. There are four major types of symptoms: re-experiencing, avoidance, arousal, and negative changes in beliefs and feelings. To diagnose PTSD, a mental health provider "measures," "assesses", or "evaluates" PTSD symptoms one may have had since the trauma. It was mentioned that mental disorders are common in the military, especially alcohol problems and neurotic disorders. PTSD remains relatively uncommon (for US and Ukrainian samples). Alcohol misuse and depressive disorders are much more common and therefore should be the primary focus for education/prevention and intervention. In the case of literature sources the consequences of inadequacy of psychological support and social adaptation of military psychotrauma are reported. The features of medical and psychological assistance to combatants in the US are noted. It is spoken in detail about the National Center for PTSD as is dedicated to research and education on trauma and PTSD. The article gives a detailed analysis of on-line programs and mobile applications for the prevention of PTSD for demobilized soldiers.
