Abstract
Two main approaches to constructing mathematical models in ecology are considered in the article. One of them relates to the classics of modeling - an analytical approach, when a model is constructed based on a set of assumptions exclusively by analytical methods (as a rule, a system of differential equations is compiled). The second approach involves mastering the methods of mathematical statistics and regression analysis. This approach to modeling is relatively new, so in the literature you can find different names associated with different interpretations of this approach. In describing this approach, we will call it statistical.
