Abstract
The article introduces the concept of "social tension in the organization" referred to as an organization's psychological state characterized by grave intra-organizational and external organizational contradictions of objective and subjective character and manifested in staff's individual and group behaviors. The author proposes an integrated socio-psychological approach to studying social tension in organizations. The sociological part of the approach focuses on researching primarily "objective", "external" aspects of social tension in the organization, its organizational and functional factors as well as the organizational and functional conditions for social tension prevention and management, while the psychological part of the approach specializes on researching primarily "subjective", "internal" aspects of social tension in the organization which include staff's and organization's psychological states, psychological factors behind social tension in the organization as well as the psychological conditions for social tension prevention and management. The author proposes a classification of the main types of social tension in the organization based on specific criteria.
