Abstract
Features of the educational ideal substantiation in the scientific heritage of the Ukrainian Christian pedagogical representatives of the XIX – early XX centuries: S.Gogotskiy, P.Linitskiy, M.Makkaveyskiy, M.Olesnitskiy, A.Novitskiy, P.Yurkevich and others are investigated. In the works of Kiev Theological Academy of Professors pedagogy serves as the special branch of philosophy, the specific worldview knowledge synthesis of the men’s appointment and the educational ideal is the harmonious blend of faith and reason, that approximate a person to the image of the God-man. The educational ideal in the A. Novitskiy's teaching is a spiritual, highly educatedand hard-working person; it is a Christian, a worthy son of his country in works by S. Gogotskiy; it is a conscious moral person that goes beyond the traditional ''ideal of a middle man'' in works by P. Yurkevich; it is an educated Christian, that is dedicated to the national ideals by P. Linitskiy; the educational ideal is full of love of a moral free person by M. Olesnitskiy; it is a harmoniously developed, compassionate, virtuous and well educated person by M. Makkaveyskiy. The ideas that, on the one hand, appeared to be too progressive for the imperial society and sharply discordant with the real person's education state in most spiritual institutions of that period, and on the other hand were too backward for representatives of the matured ''militant materialism'', that criticized their idealistic basis, are shown. These ideas are the clear evidence of humanity and independence of the Ukrainian Christian educational thought now.
