Abstract
The article discusses psychological characteristics of students with disabilities. Their Identified individual psychological characteristics, adaptive styles, response types and attitudes to their disabilities show that such persons have mainly effective models of interaction with their social environment, adequate self-acceptance, and active life philosophy. It is shown that their disabilities can be interpreted as a main resource for building of a self-regulation system of a person with disabilities. The article notes that importance of the scientific research conducted with the participation of people with disabilities lies in analyzing from the modern psychology point of view of organization of their self-regulation and self-determination, reserves and means of defect transferring into benefits, minus to plus and opportunities to help people with disabilities as well as "healthy", "normal" people on the way of optimization of their self-realization in their personal sphere and professional work. There is a conclusion based on the humanistic, existential position that health as well as a disease are ways of person’s functioning, his/hers self-organization as a self-determined dynamic system, are sources of his/her life values, goals, prospects, freedom of choice, interpretation of own challenges, and a chosen response strategy. Success in person’s self-realization and psychological well-being, including people with somatic disorders and disabilities, are determined by existence of his/her desire for self-development and own potential unfolding, by assessment of own personal resources as sufficient to success and by holistic perception of his/her life journey, including presence of realistic life goals.
