Abstract

The article analyzes main approaches to abilities and giftedness correlation. Subjectival and value approach to abilities and giftedness development is grounded. New terms are introduced by the author. Abilities are considered as inner dynamic resource for self-development based on individual combination of personal qualities and сonsisting in: 1) ability to solve situative and life tasks with the help of effective activities; 2) capacity to develop this ability. Giftedness is considered as complex system-defined quality of personality which is characterized by: 1) the highest level of abilities development and, accordingly, the highest (absolutely or in comparison with age norms) achievements in a peculiar sphere; 2) considering abilities as the basis of personal identity; 3) orientation on self-development; 4) creative orientation of the personality; 5) inner (subjectival and value) self-regulation. Abilities development is treated as the precondition for giftedness development.
