Abstract
For the first time on the basis of archival and documentary sources exposed the contribution of scientists of the Research Institute of Psychology of the Ukrainian SSR Ministry of Education in the development issues of educational psychology in the first years of its establishment (1945-1950s.). Illuminated the background of the Institutes organization. The subjects and research output of scientists, their impact on the deepening the study of the characteristics preschool and schoolchildren‟ teaching covered in the context of individualization of the educational process. Picked out and characterized the major areas of Institutes research work that was consistent with the requirements of school practice, devoted to the study of: formation of the notion of number and the conscious assimilation of knowledge by younger schoolchildren, understanding of metaphorical meanings of words and expressions, the psychology of memory, clarifying the processes schoolchildren' perception of comic situations in Literature, musical intervals, rhythm, the role of the right and left hand in the formation of motor skills in the process of writing. The main themes of researching the pupils' bringing up are depicted. The content analysis of subjects of scientific research is done in view of the political and ideological features of historical time, which largely set the terms of the Ukrainian scientists - rejection the Western science‟ achievements, high and rigid influence of soviet ideology over humanitarian scientific research. The specificity of the scientific activities of the Institute (the lack of the necessary material resources and conditions for laboratory experiments in the early post-war years), revealed successes and shortcomings in the work of Ukrainian scientists, which were displayed in the lack of fundamental experimental research. The use of previously unknown documents and facts made it possible to enter into scientific updated information on the functioning of the Institute and the development of educational psychology in Ukraine in the period under review.
