Abstract

The key principles and specifics of the psychotherapeutic confrontation suggestion are considered in the paper. It is shown that correction of dysfunctional cognitive processes is a necessary component of suggestive psychotherapy of neurotic and behavioral disorders. It is determined that confrontation suggestion considerably increases efficiency of the traditional psychotherapeutic suggestive influence. In the process of confrontation suggestion patients are suggested with the notions that logically do not correspond with their dysfunctional ideas. It is shown that successful realization of psychotherapeutic suggestion results from the usage of formally neutral notions that are not at variance with the main lifestyle principles of a patient and do not lead to his negative emotional response and resistance. The notions should be well-known, evident and not opposite to the scientific facts. It is shown that the phenomenon of cognitive dissonance with further substitution or correction of the dysfunctional idea is caused by collision of the essentially opposite views. It is determined as reasonable to use psychotherapeutic confrontation suggestion through suggestion of general lifestyle principles: continuous changeability, interdependence, relativity, irreversibility, self-organization and dynamic equilibrium. These principles are the base for further damage of rigid dysfunctional cognitive processes. The verbal expressions of psychotherapeutic influence to realize confrontation suggestion are also represented.
