Abstract

The article reveals the peculiarities of the translation work of Victor Shovkun, the author of hundreds of translations from of English, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese languages, who tried to break through the Soviet "iron curtain" and translate works into Ukrainian foreign authors. The story of his life is briefly presented, the rebellious nature of his personality is highlighted. The evaluation of his work by Ukrainian artists is presented, and his place in the cohort of Ukrainian translators is determined.
