Abstract

The article defines the role of lexicology in the process of teaching the Ukrainian language at school, outlines the features of enriching the students' vocabulary, defines the principles and criteria for the selection of lexical material, and provides ways of interpreting the lexical meaning of a word. Emphasis is placed on the need for a systematic discussion of problems that concern or to some extent concern children, the development of their emotional world. A concise methodological commentary and several exercises that can be applied in the process of learning the Ukrainian language are provided for individual topics of the "Lexicology" section.
