Abstract

In the report made at the methodological seminar of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine "Actual problems of protecting the mental health of the Ukrainian people in war and post-war times" on November 16, 2023 in the city of Kyiv, complex questions are raised about methods of ecological adaptation of the individual to extreme military conditions, endurance of daily stressful overloads, experiencing losses and preserving oneself, one’s ability to work, vitality and other psychological challenges related to a healthy lifestyle during the russian aggression. Based on the basic characteristics of a psychologically healthy personality (integrity, self-realization, self-regulation) and the levels of their manifestation (individual-psychological, value-meaningful, social-psychological), it is shown that contact with military reality changes: attitude towards oneself, towards one’s health and to sustainability; willingness to help others; willingness to take responsibility for one’s own future and life in general. The paradox of wartime reality is shown, when everyday life, which should be the safest part of life, acquires new characteristics that require acceptance and courage. The structure of a healthy lifestyle of an individual, consisting of such indicators as the level of security, socio-economic characteristics, physiological parameters, psychological dimensions, as well as the military component with its numerous external and internal limitations, is considered. The concepts of therapeutic and ecological lifestyle, their potential for human health and their main components, are described. The results of the analysis of modern foreign studies of the most important positive and negative practices of the individual, related to health, as well as our own empirical research of stabilizing and transforming practices of Ukrainians are presented. The self-recovery practices of civilians of Ukraine, military personnel with extensive experience of service in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and recently mobilized ones are listed and compared. Emphasis is placed on the strategic value of using expanded windows of opportunity for personality self-renewal, as well as changes in one’s own life in search of positive feeling of health and greater inner well-being.
