Abstract

The article updates the problem of forming a new school literary canon and encouraging schoolchildren to read. It has been proven that updating the content of school literary education in the 5th-6th grades of NUS, introducing artistic works of modern literature into model curricula, combining general didactic and methodological-literary approaches in the process of studying them, using competence-oriented tasks contribute to the development of younger teenagers' interest in reading fiction.
