Abstract

The article compares the indicators (the purpose of the study and assessment objectives, test characteristics, types of test tasks used in tests, etc.) of the international comparative study of reading literacy assessment PIRLS and the reading component of the first cycle of the National Monitoring Study of the Quality of Primary Education “State of formation of reading and mathematical competencies of primary school graduates” (2018), and within the development of the scientific base of latest, the experience was gained, generated by the program of the international comparative study PIRLS. The advantages of Ukraine's participation in the international comparative study PIRLS are emphasized and the prospects of this participation are outlined.
