Abstract

By origin, the Greek communities of Ukraine have generated from three linguistically different groups that used Modern Greek, Rumeiku and Urum idioms. Each group had its own historical path of development of national education and its own views on its future. At the beginning of the 20th century there was only one public Greek school in Ukraine, the Alexander School in Nizhyn, but Greek was hardly taught. For the first time the task of educating a multilingual personality among the Greeks was set in 1923 within the policy of forming national districts and the corresponding system of educational institutions. However, in 1938 all national districts and schools were liquidated. The question of multilingual and national education with the study of Modern Greek in Ukraine was raised again after 1991.
