Abstract

The article intends to uncover the substance of the notion of competence as a pedagogical phenomenon. It outlines the opportunities to use the competence-based approach on the lessons of Ukrainian literature and theoretically substantiates the method of developing school students’ reading competence skills, required for in-depth comprehension of the variety of styles and topics of the works of fiction and for the ability to consciously use a complex of literature-related knowledge, skills and modes of behavior in different life conditions.
