Abstract

In the article, the authors observe the methodological fundamentals for define the content and functions of the texts for reading in the elective courses in foreign languages for the high schoolchildren. The basis for their views are the competencebased, the communicative activity, the personality-oriented and the cultorological approaches that are dominating in the modern school education in foreign languages. The principles of the selection and the functions of the texts in the educational process are defined.
