Abstract
In the article, the problem of the improvement of the content of teaching Physics and Astronomy at the comprehensive educational institutions in correspondence to the contemporary educational paradigm is studied. The results of the analytical research on the content of the educational area "Natural Studies", its physical and astronomical components which was conducted by the scholars of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine were analyzed. The principal trends in the modernization of the content of the school natural studies education are defined, and the tools of this process assurance are specified. In particularly, the study covers the improvement of the competence-based approach in the formation of the education content as well as the formulation of the requirements to their comprehension by the pupils of the secondary schools, the specification of each subject contribution in the key competences formation, the focus of the content of the school Physical and Astronomical education on the formation of the Natural Sciences competence of the pupils of secondary schools. The main tendencies of the development of school Physical and Astronomical education are determined; in particularly, they include making education easier as well as the renovation of its content, directing it at the statement and the solution of the tasks that require the systematic abilities and skills of the creative practical activity which are formed as a result of the usage of the methods of the cognition of the natural phenomena and their scientific and theoretical comprehension that is a significant condition for the formation of the key and the subject competences.
