Abstract

In the article, the essence of leadership (a type of socially valuable activity, aimed at achieving personal and group purposes and determined by the personal qualities of leaders as subjects, objective situations and group requirements, circumstances of life activity of the group in a specific social environment) and leadership of personality are revealed. Key theories of leadership and basic leadership qualities are characterized: initiative, responsibility, self-confidence, perseverance, caring, creativity and more. Basic functional relationships between leadership qualities are determined. The results of a survey of adolescents and adults’ views of leadership are analyzed. Social initiative is defined as an integrated quality embodied in the way of activity, where the person who is responsible, careful, self-confident, persistent, displays the ability to propose a new socially significant idea and to contribute to its implementation.
