Abstract
The desire of society to solve the problems of global ecological crisis is not possible without the development of the education system, including environmental. The article highlights the role and function of modern environmental education in the context of sustainable development. Under these conditions it acquires the status of an integrating factor of education as a whole determines its strategic goals and provides guidelines, serving as a new direction of education.
