Abstract
The article deals with the problem of forming practical abilities of boarding schools senior pupils. It discloses scientific approaches to determining the ability structure and its relationship with knowledge and acquired habits. The essence of the notion «practical abilities of senior pupils» is defined. Practical abilities of senior pupils mean the personality’s capability to execute purposive, qualitative and successful practical activity based on the comprehensive application of skills, acquired habits, experience and values. On the basis of analysis of scientific sources and practical educational work at boarding schools, the contents and main trends of forming practical abilities of senior pupils of boarding schools, concerning all aspects of individual life and activity of boarding-school pupils in everyday life, are determined. The trends of forming practical abilities are the following ones: economic housekeeping, personal budget monitoring, distributing of housekeeping duties among the family members and performing these duties, cooking, shopping, keeping dwelling clean and in order, well-keeping of clothes and footwear, hygienic abilities. Forms and methods of forming practical abilities of senior pupils of boarding schools are substantiated. Methodology of applying these forms and methods in cultivating practical activity at comprehensive schools and boarding schools is revealed in this article.
