Abstract
The essence of the concept «family values» is defined as an aggregate of the accepted in society ideas of family that affect its vital functions. Traditionally, family is determined as a team headed by the partners of opposite sex, which are in marriage and have children. In the United States of America, family values are reflected in the public family policy, in determining demographic and social priorities. Family values also correlate with the views on the role of woman in society and family, sexual moral. The traditional family remains a norm, which all other family forms are often compared to. At the same time, new forms of family unions have appeared next to a traditional family, for example, lone parentfamily, family with adopted children, with stepfather or stepmother, non-working father which takes care of children, unisexual marriages. The pointlessness, illegality and uselessness of the traditional consideration of family is proved. As a dynamic social and economic structure, it must be interpreted in accordance with the needs of modern civil society. The revision of family values means the recognition of a variety of its forms and marriage relations, both untraditional and traditional, strengthening the anxiety about children’s appropriation of the real values. Ponderable influence on the consideration of family values is produced by feminism, which marks the value of mutual growth, self-realization and collaboration of marriage partners, education of children; defends the values of love, mutual respect, care, responsibility, sympathy and honesty. The main features of the posttraditional American family are revealed, which adheres to not a single certain structural model and is oriented on achieving consent between all family members, realization of humane social ‘contact’, establishment and development of democratic paternal-child mutual relations.
