Abstract

The paper theoretically substantiates a system of criteria and indicators for selecting generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) services to support the research activities of academic staff in the field of educational sciences. Based on the activity approach and the digital competence framework, six selection criteria are defined: search-and-review, design-and-modeling, analytical, communication-and-publication, as well as two cross-cutting criteria—ethical-and-safety and reflective-and-developmental. The study aligns these criteria with key tasks across the research lifecycle and provides illustrative evaluation scenarios using Perplexity AI, NotebookLM, Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini. The proposed framework offers practical guidelines for the safe and responsible integration of GenAI, establishing clear boundaries for delegating research operations while preserving the researcher's academic autonomy and integrity.
