Abstract
The article proposes a system model for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in educational research. Unlike existing frameworks that describe individual aspects — tools, norms, or workflows — in isolation, the proposed model integrates eight functional components into a single analytical unit: normative-regulatory, subject-agent, resource-data, process-management, instrumental-infrastructural, verification-validation, configuration-outcome, and feedback and development. The central theoretical argument is that the degree of delegation of cognitive research operations to AI is not a fixed property of the tool but a parameter of the practice of its use and one of the key factors shaping the configuration of the system. Its impact is mediated by the research methodology, the characteristics of the data, organisational resources, and the normative context. Two structural axes form an operational matrix: the profile of delegated cognitive operations, represented by five functional clusters, and the level of scientific activity organisation — individual, group, institutional, or sectoral. The 20-cell matrix describes typical system configurations and makes it possible to identify qualitatively distinct risk profiles, in particular the transition between Clusters III and IV, critical in terms of interpretive validity, where the risks of methodological failure are highest. For each configuration, the model specifies the distribution of agency, verification and validation requirements, and the structure of accountability. The logical coherence and illustrative applicability of the model have been preliminarily examined in three contrasting scenarios; this procedure does not constitute empirical validation and does not cover all 20 cells of the matrix. The practical output is a configuration checklist by which a researcher or an institution can determine the system configuration before a study begins. The theoretical foundations of the model are general system theory, the theory of delegation in the actor-network approach, and the model of distributed cognition. Methodologically, the article relies on conceptual synthesis with critical analysis of the literature.
