Abstract

This article analyzes global trends in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in education during the period 2020–2026 and examines its impact on humans through the lens of contemporary scholarly literature and the results of a survey of Ukrainian educators. A review of international research and policy documents issued by UNESCO, OECD, UNICEF, and the World Bank demonstrates a shift from viewing AI as a standalone educational tool toward understanding it as an infrastructural component of modern educational systems. The study shows that the positive impact of AI on learning outcomes is most evident when technologies are integrated into educational processes under pedagogical guidance and human oversight and are aligned with educational objectives. The empirical part of the study is based on the results of an online survey involving 578 Ukrainian educators. The findings reveal a high level of digital platform use in teachers’ professional activities, as well as widespread concerns regarding data transparency, algorithmic recommendations, the commercialization of educational platforms, and risks to teacher autonomy. A significant proportion of respondents reported concerns about the opacity of data settings, the prevalence of behavioral influence mechanisms, and insufficient awareness of how algorithmic systems operate. Statistically significant relationships were identified between perceptions of algorithmic functions, behavioral nudging, lack of transparency in data settings, and selected aspects of digital monitoring. The results indicate that the contemporary impact of artificial intelligence on humans in education is manifested not only through content generation and automated assessment but also through the architecture of digital platforms, data collection mechanisms, algorithmic recommendations, and organizational management practices. The study substantiates the need to enhance transparency in data use, ensure meaningful human oversight of automated decisions, and preserve educators’ professional autonomy as key conditions for the responsible implementation of artificial intelligence in education.
