Abstract
Barinov S.A. Psychological features of the formation of resilience in volunteers. – Qualified scientific work as a manuscript. Dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 05 – social and behavioral sciences, specialty 053 – psychology. – G. S. Kostyuk Institute of Psychology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv, 2026. The dissertation theoretically substantiates and experimentally studies the problem of the formation of resilience in volunteers. The dissertation is an independent, holistic and completed study, which presents theoretical and practical aspects of psychological factors and conditions for the formation of resilience in volunteers. The scientific novelty and theoretical significance of the scientific work are determined, which consist in the fact that: for the first time: - a conceptual model of the phased formation of resilience in volunteers at the personal, motivational, regulatory and behavioral levels has been created; - the leading importance of coping in the search for social support among psychological predictors of volunteers' resilience has been proven; the following have been clarified: - age and gender specificity of resilience in volunteers; - linear dependence of the level of individual resilience on the experience of volunteer activity; - positive effect of factors of personal maturity, emotional stability, existentiality and existential motivation on the level of resilience of volunteers; have received further development: - means of psychological support of volunteer activity through the creation and implementation of a program for the formation of volunteer resilience; - means of psychodiagnostics of the subject of activity through the creation of a valid and reliable methodology for the altruistic orientation of the volunteer; - the idea of resilience as a resource for overcoming the action of negative factors of professional activity on the example of volunteering. The work contains new scientifically substantiated theoretical and practical results, which are a significant contribution to the development of domestic psychology. The dissertation is devoted to the theoretical substantiation and experimental study of the problems of outlining the main directions of work with volunteers in order to increase their level of resilience. The practical significance of the work lies in the fact that the factors and predictors of the resilience of volunteers were empirically determined, which were taken into account in the created and implemented program of its formation. An author's methodology for diagnosing the altruistic orientation of a volunteer was created, the validity and reliability of which have been proven. In the first section, based on a theoretical analysis of the state of research on the problem, it was established that volunteering is a process of multi-level interaction of personal and social factors, which simultaneously affects the self-development of the volunteer, the formation of prosocial identity and collective resilience of the community. The adaptive and regulatory functions of volunteering are shown, designed to reduce the feeling of helplessness, contribute to the understanding of traumatic experience, the formation of moral values, social maturity, empathy, and a sense of responsibility. At the same time, the threats of emotional exhaustion, secondary traumatization and professional burnout caused by volunteering are emphasized. The study defines resilience as a dynamic mechanism for maintaining adaptive functioning in stressful conditions, which is formed in the interaction of individual, social and contextual factors. The possibilities of developing resilience through psychological training, self-regulation training and social support are shown. The theoretical section of the work also highlights the problem of studying resilience in war conditions as a basic 9 resource for overcoming stress, maintaining mental health and ensuring the effectiveness of assistance in the process of volunteering. The second section analyzes the age and gender characteristics of resilience, as well as its specifics depending on the length of service. The work shows that the greatest length of service among volunteers predicts the highest resilience indicators. It is determined that female volunteers are inferior to men in most resilience indicators. The empirical section also shows the nonlinear age-specificity of volunteers' resilience: in the period of middle adulthood, resilience indicators are higher compared to the periods of early and late adulthood, however, it is noted that a long experience of volunteering at a young age has a positive effect on the level of resilience, especially orientation to challenges and goal achievement in men and constructive coping in women. The work empirically determined the correlations of volunteers' resilience with the general indicator of personal maturity, the most significant of which were found for indicators of life philosophy. It was determined that self-control and the ability to overcome difficulties are positively correlated with indicators of responsibility of personal maturity, and self-determination and meaningfulness of life are positively correlated with life philosophy, depth of experiences and autonomy, as well as with existential self-transcendence. Stress resistance has a strong connection with self-acceptance, existential freedom. Constructive coping is associated with synergy, and social contact - with tolerance and contact, the fundamental existential motivation of correlation, time and proximity. Optimal regulation is associated with self-acceptance, self-transcendence and responsibility, the fundamental existential motivation of support, security and space, and openness to life experience - with indicators of creativity of personal maturity, existential freedom and responsibility, fundamental existential motivation of interested attention, fair treatment and determination of value. In general, resilience in volunteers is positively correlated with all fundamental existential motivations, existentiality, altruistic orientation and emotional stability, coping strategies of seeking social support and planning to solve the problem, and negatively - with reactive and situational anxiety. The work shows the psychological factors of resilience in volunteers: a critically low level of personal maturity, a low level of existentiality, fundamental existential motivations, emotional stability, high anxiety significantly reduce resilience. The dissertation shows the typology of coping behavior of volunteers: "Dominance of avoidance coping", "Dominance of confrontational coping", "Denial of responsibility for solving the problem", "Dominance of constructive coping", where the first two are inferior in the level of resilience to the last two. In addition, the empirical section proves the positive role of volunteer experience in the formation of resilience. It was determined that novice volunteers, given a critically low level of personal maturity, a low level of existentiality and existential motivation, altruistic orientation, as well as high neuroticism and anxiety, are characterized by reduced self-control, optimal regulation and ability to overcome difficulties, self-determination and meaningfulness of life, and general resilience. On the other hand, volunteers with more experience at a high level of personal maturity, altruistic orientation, existentiality and existential motivation, emotional stability and low and moderate anxiety are characterized by the highest indicators of resilience. At the end of the empirical section of the dissertation, regression analysis data are presented, which show that the most influential predictors of resilience in volunteers are high indicators of coping, seeking social support, problem-solving planning, self-acceptance and creativity, and low indicators of neuroticism, while self-transcendence, existential motivation, time and closeness positively determine most parameters of volunteers' resilience. In the third section, a conceptual model and structural and content characteristics of the psychological program for the formation of volunteers' resilience are developed, which takes into account the staged formative influence at the personal, motivational, regulatory and behavioral levels. The dissertation presents the modular structure of the program, which was implemented in a group format using psychoeducational, reflective and practice-oriented methods and the program was aimed not only at the development of individual psychological skills or resources, but at the formation of internal coherence, autonomous motivation, emotional stability and mature altruistic orientation of volunteer activity. The work shows that the implementation of the program had a positive effect on the resilience of its participants. The presented study does not exhaust all aspects of the problem of the resilience of volunteers and the prospects for further scientific exploration will be in the theoretical sphere - determining, along with the specifics of resilience, the features of other psychological resources and competencies of volunteers from various industries and areas of activity, in the practical sphere - in the development of psychological methods and technologies for the formation of the resilience of volunteers in the conditions of war and post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
