Abstract

The paper examines the development of emergency psychological care in Ukraine under the conditions of war and widespread psychological traumatization of the population. It analyzes the evolution of early psychological intervention approaches, the expansion of trauma-focused psychotherapeutic methods, and their integration into psychological support practices. The differences between psychological first aid and emergency psychological care are substantiated according to their purpose, principles, providers and recipients, conditions and timing of intervention, as well as the methods employed. It is argued that emergency psychological care based on trauma-focused psychotherapeutic techniques is aimed not only at stabilizing an individual's mental state and reducing acute stress reactions but also at processing traumatic experiences and preventing long-term mental disorders. The importance of timely early psychological interventions for reducing the risk of post-traumatic consequences and enhancing the adaptive capacities of affected individuals is emphasized.
