Abstract
The report analyses modern approaches to implementing the content of vocational training for students with special educational needs in special secondary education institutions. Possible options for their integration into educational practice are presented, taking into account the specific characteristics of organising the educational process for people with special needs. The report highlights the primary results of the applied research project ‘Improving the Content of Basic Secondary Education for Students with Intellectual Disabilities under the New Ukrainian School Framework’, which was conducted by researchers from the Department of Education for Children with Intellectual Disabilities at the Mykola Yarmachenko Institute of Special Pedagogy and Psychology of the NAES of Ukraine during 2024–2025. Scientific, methodological, and practical manuals, textbooks, model curricula, and didactic materials designed for the vocational training of students with intellectual disabilities, which have been developed and field-tested, are presented. Particular attention is dedicated to integrating the research findings into the practice of special and inclusive institutions of general secondary education. The report highlights the active cooperation between the Department of Education of Children with Intellectual Disabilities of the Mykola Yarmachenko Institute of Special Pedagogy and Psychology of the NAES of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in developing educational and methodological support for the education of students with intellectual disabilities. Attention is focused on the socialisation of students with intellectual disabilities, cooperation with public parent organisations, popularisation of scientific and practical results at advanced training courses for teaching staff, among other aspects. Proposals are made for further innovative searches in the field of professional and labour training of students with intellectual disabilities for the entire period of labour training in special schools.
