Abstract

The evolution of the identification of scientists throughout the historical development of science is analyzed - from informal mechanisms of reputation and oral tradition to institutionalized and digital forms of recognition of scientific contribution. The main stages of the formation of scientific identity are identified, related to the institutionalization of science, the globalization of scientific communications and the formation of scientometric approaches to the assessment of research results. The role of modern digital platforms and unique identifiers (ORCID, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus) as key tools for the formation of academic identity and increasing the international visibility of scientists is substantiated.
