Abstract
The article raises the issue of studying the effectiveness of inclusive education for children with special educational needs (SEN) in Ukraine, where it is legally enshrined that they (except for children with intellectual disabilities) receive qualified education. The shortcomings of today's inclusive education are considered using the example of children with mental retardation (MD). The negative impact on the development and education of children with SEN of their insufficient support in the inclusive education system and the deprivation of the opportunity to study in special classes is shown. A significant problem is the complication of the differentiation of SEN and intellectual development disorders due to the rejection of domestic principles of psychological and pedagogical diagnostics. All this becomes an obstacle to the receipt of qualified education and social and labor adaptation by children of this category, which is extremely important against the backdrop of the demographic crisis caused by the war.
