Abstract
The article addresses the issue of updating the educational content implemented in textbooks in the context of the rapid development of science and technology. The role of the textbook is emphasized as a basic channel of educational modernization and a carrier of educational content, an information navigator in the digital world of knowledge, and the main means of learning as well as of developing key competencies and transversal skills. The effectiveness of their development is considered to depend on the textbook-based learning method as one of the leading approaches in contemporary education. The article provides a definition of this method and explains its purpose. Particular attention is paid to the need to reconsider the essence and role of the Ukrainian textbook and its potential as a means of educating a generation capable of responding to current and future challenges. Changes in the functional role, content, and structure of the textbook during the transition from utilitarian-empirical learning to competency-based learning are traced. Modern requirements for the textbook are formulated in light of new educational realities. Obstacles to the development and implementation of high-quality next-generation textbooks in the educational process are identified. Key tasks related to implementing updated educational content in textbooks and to increasing the effectiveness of the textbook-based learning method are determined. Relevant research on this problem is analyzed. Insufficiently studied aspects are identified and possible ways of addressing them are outlined. The purpose of the article is formulated, and the research methods and tools are characterized. The problem is examined in the context of updating educational content. The essence of the method is clarified, its key features are identified, and aspects of its modernization are considered in relation to educational approaches, didactic principles, and the functions of the textbook. The advantages of the method are emphasized, and the conditions and ways of its effective application, taking into account AI technologies, are defined. Prospects for further research are outlined.
