Abstract

The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the didactic potential of digital textbook supplements in the context of developing inquiry skills of primary school students. The relevance of the study is determined by the integration of digital components into the structure of contemporary textbooks and the need for their pedagogically grounded and methodologically sound use, with a focus on supporting inquiry-oriented learning and the cognitive activity of younger learners. The purpose of the article is to identify didactic guidelines for the use of digital textbook supplements as a means of developing basic inquiry skills of primary school students. The methodological framework is based on a theoretical and analytical approach that integrates the analysis of scholarly sources, a comparative review of studies on digital learning materials, and a structural and functional analysis of digital textbook supplements. It is substantiated that the educational value of digital textbook supplements is determined not by their digital form per se, but by the nature of the learning actions they initiate and sustain. It is shown that, when used in a didactically and methodologically grounded manner, digital supplements can contribute to the development of students’ abilities to ask questions, plan cognitive activity, conduct observations, analyze and compare data, formulate assumptions, draw simple conclusions, explain the results of their own activity, and engage in elementary reflection. At the same time, it is emphasized that the use of digital supplements without a clear focus on developing students’ inquiry skills does not ensure the achievement of the corresponding educational outcomes. The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of applying the obtained findings to improve the pedagogical design of digital textbook supplements and to provide methodological support for primary school teachers in organizing inquiry-oriented learning.
