Abstract

The article is devoted to analyzing the current state of use of cloud services by teachers of general secondary education institutions in the context of preparation for implementing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in STEM education. The problem of the study is the need to develop teachers' competence in the field of artificial intelligence, which is impossible without understanding their current level of digital literacy and the practice of using digital tools (in particular, cloud services and cloud-oriented systems). The article aims to identify the features of teachers' use of cloud services based on the analysis of the survey data obtained, particularly in subject categories, to substantiate the prerequisites and determine the potential for developing their competence in using artificial intelligence. The article presents the results of a survey of 400 teachers on the use of services for organizing students' collaborative work and an analysis of the responses of 119 teachers on the tools they use to prepare for lessons. Based on frequency analysis, the most popular services were identified, among which Google services occupy the leading position (84.5%). The popularity coefficient of services relative to the leader and the entropy of the distribution according to the Shannon formula (1.47 bits) were calculated, which indicates a relatively low diversity in the choice of tools. A detailed analysis showed that STEM teachers are the most active online users (92.59%) and cloud services (87.04%). To check the presence of a statistically significant relationship between the category of subjects taught by the teacher and the use of a specific type of services, the Pearson χ2 (chi-square) criterion was applied. The test results (p > 0.05) showed the absence of such a relationship, which indicates a general trend of a high level of use of digital technologies among all categories of teachers. The generalized results of the study confirm the high digital activity of teachers, especially in the STEM field, which is an essential prerequisite for the development and implementation of a methodology for developing their competence in the use of artificial intelligence.
