Abstract

In the course of the study, the authors analysed the definitions of civic competence, clarified its structure and content characteristics in the context of the digital and social transformation of Ukrainian society, and identified the pedagogical factors that influence its development in the modern educational environment. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between civic competence and media literacy, critical thinking and digital responsibility of students. The relevance of the study is determined by profound social changes related to digitalisation, the transformation of social institutions, military challenges and the intensification of information influence. In such conditions, the formation of responsible civic behaviour among students becomes an important task of educational policy, since it is the younger generation that will determine the further development of democratic processes and social stability in the state. We proceed from the recognition that the civic competence under study is an integrative quality of personality that combines cognitive, value-motivational, activityrelated, and reflective components and is formed in the process of purposeful pedagogical interaction. It involves not only knowledge of the rights and obligations of a citizen, but also a readiness for active social participation, critical thinking and responsible use of digital resources. The results of a survey of teachers showed that the development of civic competence in students requires greater integration of digital tools into the educational process, improvement of methods for working with information sources, and the formation of a strong internal motivation for civic engagement. The need for systematic support from educational institutions to create a safe and value-oriented digital environment was also identified. Thus, the development of students’ civic competence in modern conditions should be based on a comprehensive pedagogical approach that combines traditional and innovative educational strategies.
