Abstract
The article addresses the issue of aesthetic education of children through the means of Ukrainian ethnopedagogy. It emphasizes that in today's context, the preservation and thorough study of the Ukrainian people's cultural heritage has become increasingly relevant, particularly through the promotion of exemplary folk art as a means of educating the younger generation of Ukrainians. The use of national cultural assets in the educational process is strongly encouraged. The study underlines that the aesthetic education of modern children is grounded in a culturological approach, understood as a scientifically based and purposeful process of engaging the individual in culture. This process facilitates the transmission of centuries-old human experience—both theoretical and value-based—as well as practical knowledge from one generation to the next, adapting it to contemporary realities. The key tools of aesthetic education for today’s children include the native language, the beauty of nature, the charm of folk songs, music, theater, dance, outstanding works of folk art, and ancient customs, traditions, and rituals passed down from our ancestors. These means contribute to the preservation and enrichment of the national cultural gene pool and foster the consciousness and self-awareness of the young generation. Therefore, it is particularly important to ensure the unity of moral and aesthetic foundations in the educational process—such as the aesthetics of communication, the culture of emotional expression, and the cultivation of value-based attitudes and respect toward national cultural heritage. Childhood is viewed as the most favorable period for forming emotional culture, aesthetic worldview, general cultural and artistic competence, active citizenship, and for expanding and enriching children’s artistic and aesthetic experience. The article emphasizes that Ukrainian folk pedagogy historically fulfilled three core tasks of aesthetic education: forming an understanding of beauty in life and art, nurturing aesthetic taste, and developing individual creative abilities, skills, and competencies in diverse forms of artistic activity.
