Abstract
The modern system of general secondary education is aimed not only at transmitting academic knowledge but also at developing personal qualities, particularly students’ leadership competencies. A high level of leadership skills contributes to the successful integration of students into society, enhances their competitiveness in the labor market, and fosters an active civic position. One of the key factors influencing the development of leadership potential is the educational environment, which includes pedagogical methods, the organization of the learning process, interpersonal relationships, and extracurricular activities. The article examines the significance of hard skills and soft skills in the process of forming students’ leadership qualities. Hard skills include analytical thinking, digital literacy, financial, and managerial skills essential for strategic decision-making. Soft skills, such as communication abilities, emotional intelligence, stress resistance, and teamwork skills, determine the effectiveness of interaction with others and the ability to adapt to changing conditions. The study analyzes methods for developing leadership skills in the school environment, including project-based learning, debates, role-playing games, volunteer activities, participation in student self-government, coaching, and mentoring. It has been proven that a combination of active learning, practical experience, and extracurricular activities fosters students’ responsibility, initiative, creativity, and management skills. The main problems hindering the development of leadership competencies have been identified: the lack of a systematic approach in educational practice, the low level of integration of leadership programs into the learning process, and limited methodological support. Prospective research directions include analyzing the effectiveness of various pedagogical methods, studying the impact of emotional intelligence on the development of leadership qualities, and examining the relationship between academic success and students’ leadership competencies. The research results highlight the need for developing and implementing comprehensive approaches to shaping leadership qualities in students. Modern education should not only provide students with knowledge but also create conditions for developing personal and social competencies necessary for successful leadership in the future.
