Abstract
The study is aimed at examining the opinions of principals of general secondary education institutions regarding the impact of the results of the evaluation of their professional performance (certification) on subsequent changes that took place in their educational institutions. The survey was conducted using a questionnaire specially designed by the author and distributed via Google Forms tools. The value of Cronbach’s alpha coefficient indicates a sufficiently high reliability of the questionnaire as a measurement instrument. The study was based on a comparison of the survey results of two groups of principals of general secondary education institutions who expressed diametrically opposed opinions who expressed diametrically opposed views (“absolutely ineffective” – 135 respondents and “very effective” – 430 respondents) regarding the effectiveness (usefulness for further work) of the current procedure of their certification as heads of educational institutions. The obtained results made it possible to rank a specific list of the most characteristic actions related to three main clusters (“Educational Policy and Institutional Development Management,” “Professionalism,” and “Interaction Environment”), as well as to clarify the principals’ views on the list of the most important indicators by which their professional performance should be evaluated. Methods of mathematical statistics confirmed the presence of statistically significant differences in the subsequent behavior of school leaders depending on their assessment of the effectiveness of their certification. The study was carried out within the framework of the research project “Evaluation of Professional Activity of Teaching Staff.” The author’s reasoning is based on the idea that a positive perception by an educational professional, particularly a principal a general secondary education institution, of the results of professional performance evaluation contributes to directing their efforts toward further professional development and creating the necessary conditions for the continuous success of all students in the educational institution.
