Abstract

The presentation examines the history of the building of the Pedagogical Museum in Kyiv as a monument of history and architecture of national significance. It outlines the circumstances of its construction and highlights the contribution of prominent public and educational figures, including Tymofii Lubenets and Semen Mohylevtsev, as well as the architect Pavlo Alyoshin. The architectural features of the building are analyzed, including its façades, the frieze dedicated to the development of education, and the mascarons depicting Socrates and Alexander the Great. The presentation also explores the interior spaces (the grand auditorium, library reading room, exhibition halls, and model physics classroom) and the museum’s educational activities in the early twentieth century, particularly the summer courses for teachers. Special attention is given to the building’s role in Ukrainian state-building processes, as it housed the Ukrainian Central Rada. The current legal status of the building as a national heritage monument (57 Volodymyrska Street, Kyiv) is also outlined. The presentation may be used for research, educational, and museum purposes, as well as in studies of the history of education and architecture in early twentieth-century Ukraine.
