Abstract
The article presents a theoretical and methodological analysis of the problem of nurturing the mental health of children with special educational needs in life crisis situations that are characteristic of the contemporary psychotraumatic society. The relevance of the study is substantiated in the context of global social transformations, armed conflict, and chronic stress exposure, which significantly affect the psycho-emotional state of preschool children, particularly those with mild intellectual disabilities. The paper analyzes the main scientific approaches to understanding extreme and crisis situations (stimulus-based, individualistic, and interactive), as well as modern concepts of psychological trauma, resilience, and coping strategies. The study justifies the use of the concept of mental health as an integrative characteristic of a child’s psychological well-being and a key resource for adaptation under conditions of instability. Particular attention is paid to the potential of the multimodal BASIC Ph model as an effective tool for activating children’s internal and external resources, fostering stress resistance, emotional self-regulation, and social support. The specifics of crisis and traumatic reactions in preschool children, as well as the risks of maladaptation in the educational environment, are outlined. The key directions of psychological and pedagogical support for children with special educational needs in crisis conditions are identified, including the adaptation of educational programs, the creation of a safe and predictable environment, the strengthening of interdisciplinary cooperation, and active collaboration with families. It is concluded that systematic nurturing of a child’s mental health through the development of resilience and adaptive coping strategies is an essential factor in preserving psychological well-being and promoting successful socialization in a contemporary psychotraumatic society.
