Abstract

The theses cover the period from 1990 to 2004 of the formation of the system of national-patriotic education, showing how it took place in higher education institutions of Ukraine in the conditions of the formation of statehood and the transformation of the educational space. Historical memory in this context has become one of the key factors in the development of civic identity and strengthening the national consciousness of student youth. It has been found that this element of the educational system has become the basis for the affirmation of Ukrainian values, the formation of a national narrative and the establishment of state priorities in the educational process of higher education institutions. After the declaration of independence of Ukraine in 1991, the formation of national consciousness and patriotism among youth has become one of the key directions of state policy.
