Abstract
The article examines the psychological readiness of Ukrainian students to counter ecological and epidemic threats in wartime conditions in relation to their levels of traumatic stress and emotional burnout, as well as their levels of well-being, resilience, and resource-based coping with stress. The findings indicate that the majority of participants (84.3percent) reported moderate levels of readiness in the context of moderate and high levels of traumatic stress symptoms and emotional burnout, together with high and moderate levels of psychological well-being, resilience, and resource-based coping. Furthermore, readiness to counter ecological and epidemic threats demonstrated statistically significant correlations with other indicators of psychological functioning, in particular, resource-based coping (r=0.316; p<0.01), resilience (r=0.260; p<0.01), psychological well-being (r=0.143; p<0.05), and traumatic stress symptoms (r=–0.210; p<0.01). No statistically significant correlation was found between readiness to counter threats and emotional burnout (r=0.037; p≥0.05). Correlation analysis and comparison of level indicators identified traumatic stress symptoms as a destructive factor influencing readiness, while resource-based coping was identified as a constructive factor. However, living in conditions of continuous systematic military threats may provoke a special paradoxical adaptation to its challenges. For instance, we have reason to assert that for a certain part of students, destructive factors can positively stimulate their psychological readiness, resilience, and stress management. This study holds practical importance by establishing the main objectives for enhancing students’ psychological readiness in wartime conditions, in particular reducing destructive factors and facilitating constructive ones. The prospects for further research involve exploring the features of paradoxical adaptation among students to ensure high levels of readiness to counter ecological and epidemic threats, foster personal growth, and promote overall psychological health in wartime conditions, as well as providing necessary psychological support to strengthen students’ readiness to counter threats.
