Abstract
In this article, the author attempts to explore the ontology of giftedness in terms of its resource dimension. Resources for the development of giftedness are considered as an integral part of human life and of the spheres in which it unfolds: the biosphere, the sociosphere, and the noosphere. The author views an initiative human individual as the subject of integration of the bio-, socio-, and noo-spheres within the framework of personal functioning and involvement in self-improvement, and thus in the development of abilities, including their most perfected form – giftedness – with all its rich resources. The individual’s ability to take initiative, manifested both in spontaneous forms and in purposeful intentions, is deeply rooted in human nature. This nature has been shaped through evolution within the bio-, socio-, and noo-spheres and is determined by the laws that regulate functioning in these spheres. One of these laws is the law of fertility. Activity aimed at achieving conformity of human existence with the imperatives of the law of fertility is ensured by the system of human abilities. Without abilities, such conformity is impossible. The functional meaning of giftedness, understood as an association of abilities, lies in creating opportunities to perform this task at the highest possible level in terms of excellence and quantitative productivity. Giftedness thus acts as a tool for productive activity. The article presents the results of an analysis of resources for the functioning and development of giftedness. It substantiates the idea that these resources are inextricably linked to human nature and all aspects of its organization, primarily to such fundamental dimensions of existence as orientation, survival, adaptation, and generation. Motivation and activity of the individual, structured according to the algorithms of these dimensions, provide access to the resources they contain and enable their involvement in the processes of development and functioning of the system of abilities. The article also describes the types of resources involved in the development and functioning of giftedness. Their structure includes groups of biological, social, and noological resources, divided into external and internal resources. According to the criterion of locality within the organization of the human individual, deep resources and resources of operational access are distinguished. Deep resources are associated with the functioning of general biological mechanisms and specific existential algorithms embedded in the human genome and the deep layers of the psyche, conceptualized through the categories of the individual and collective unconscious. Readily accessible resources include those whose role in the development of giftedness reflects the potential of collective culture in fostering abilities. Internal resources are subdivided into physiological and psychological ones. Psychological resources, in turn, include cognitive, affective, personal resources, and resources of the attitude system, each with its own internal stratifi cation. For example, the subgroup of cognitive resources comprises the resources of mental processes such as sensation, perception, memory, thinking, intellect, attention, and imagination, as well as the phenomena they generate – ideas, thoughts, beliefs, conceptual images, and constructs. Psychological resources are decisive within the overall system of resources for the development of giftedness, as it is through their filters that the implementation of all other types of resources occurs.
