Abstract
The article addresses the issue of food losses and food waste in the context of implementing Sustainable Development Goal 12 “Responsible Consumption and Production.” Emphasis is placed on the need to reduce food losses at all stages of the production and consumption chain, as well as on the importance of fostering a responsible attitude toward food as a valuable resource. The role of civil society initiatives in achieving global sustainable development goals at the national and local levels is substantiated. The activities of the “Feed Your Neighbor” project are analyzed as a digital platform that enables the direct transfer of surplus food without establishing separate food hubs. The main objectives of the project are identified, including strengthening cooperation among organizations, connecting food producers and consumers, and supporting socially vulnerable groups through food redistribution. The effectiveness of digital tools in coordinating such initiatives is highlighted. Special attention is given to the online platform “Share – Don’t Throw Away,” which aims to mobilize communities, volunteer groups, and food service establishments to reduce food waste. The platform facilitates the exchange of needs and opportunities among participants and is based on the principles of voluntariness, free participation, and openness, thereby contributing to the development of volunteerism and social solidarity. The article also presents the educational program for children “Do Good: Save Food!”, which promotes a culture of conscious consumption from an early age. The program is adapted to different age groups and combines educational materials with interactive learning activities. It is concluded that the integration of awareness-raising efforts, digital platforms, and educational initiatives has significant potential for scaling and can serve as an effective model for reducing food losses in Ukraine.
