Abstract
The publication entitled “Education of the Future: the 5E Model in the Light of the Fundamentals of Mathematics Didactics” is an interdisciplinary study devoted to modern trends in mathematics teaching at the early primary education stage. The authors attempt a comprehensive examination of the 5E model as a constructivist instructional strategy that responds to the needs of contemporary learners and to the requirements arising from curriculum reforms in Poland and Ukraine. The book includes an analysis of the theoretical as well as psychological and didactic foundations of the 5E model, indicating its roots in activating pedagogy and its alignment with current concepts of specialized mathematics education. The reader will find a comparison of the 5E model with other educational approaches, along with a detailed characterization of its five-stage structure: Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration (knowledge extension), and Evaluation. The publication presents methodological proposals for implementing the 5E model in school practice, taking into account activating strategies, collaborative work, and integration with educational technologies. These contents are supplemented with case studies and the results of empirical research conducted among teachers and students in grades 1–3. The book is addressed to teachers, students of pedagogical programmes, and individuals interested in innovations in mathematics education. It serves as a source of theoretical knowledge and an inspiration for designing flexible, engaging, and competence-oriented lesson scenarios that respond to the challenges of 21st-century education.
