Abstract
The work substantiates the conceptual foundations for updating mathematics education in the context of implementing the State Standard for Basic Secondary Education and the ideas of the New Ukrainian School. It reveals approaches to developing students' mathematical competence by updating the content of teaching, learning outcomes, and teachers' methodological tools. Particular attention is paid to the logic of educational programme design, the relationship between expected outcomes and the learning process, and the role of activity-based and competence-based approaches. The work is practical in nature and can be used by teachers, methodologists and educational programme developers for professional understanding and implementation of educational changes.
