Abstract
The relevance of the issue of forming intercultural competence in the context of civic education is determined by the intensification of globalization processes, European integration, migration dynamics, and the growing cultural diversity of contemporary society. In a polycultural environment, special importance is attached to the preparation of individuals who are capable of constructive interaction with representatives of different cultures, respect for cultural differences, internalization of democratic values, and active realization of civic rights and responsibilities. In this article, intercultural competence is conceptualized as an integral personal formation that combines knowledge of cultural diversity, value orientations, attitudes of tolerance, and intercultural communication skills, all of which directly influence the development of civic consciousness. The purpose of the article is to provide a theoretical substantiation of the role of intercultural competence as a key factor in the civic education of individuals within a polycultural environment. The research is based on methods of theoretical analysis of scientific sources, as well as the generalization and systematization of scholarly approaches to the problems of civic education and intercultural education. The article analyzes contemporary approaches to understanding civic education and identifies its value-based and activity-oriented dimensions in the context of a democratic society. It is substantiated that intercultural competence contributes to the formation of such civic qualities as tolerance, social responsibility, respect for human rights, readiness for social interaction, and participation in public life. The structural components of intercultural competence—cognitive, emotional-value, and behavioral—are defined, and their influence on the process of civic education is examined. Emphasis is placed on the role of the educational environment as a leading space for the development of intercultural dialogue and civic engagement. The article concludes that the integration of an intercultural approach into the education system promotes the formation of a socially mature, responsible, and civically active individual capable of effective functioning in a polycultural society.
