Abstract

The article highlights the current problem of military-patriotic education of high school students in wartime. It has been proven that military-patriotic education is an integrated educational process aimed at forming in young people a conscious attitude towards the defense of their state, defense consciousness, love for the Motherland, relevant competencies and readiness to act in the interests of society and the nation, and increasing the prestige of military service. It has been established that the military-patriotic education of senior grade students is based on such values as patriotism (a conscious feeling of love for one’s Motherland, which is manifested in the readiness to defend its independence and territorial integrity, work for its benefit and restoration, share national values, respect its culture, language, history, and act in the interests of the people and nation), dignity (as recognition of the value and significance of each person as an individual, regardless of their origin, status, beliefs, or circumstances, as well as an internal awareness of one's own moral self-worth and the right to respect from others), responsibility (a pervasive integrated value that consists in the conscious attitude of high school students to the defense of the Motherland, readiness to serve society and the state even in difficult circumstances), optimism (an ethical position - not to give up, not to lose humanity, to support others, is an internal core that mobilizes a person to action, supports psychological resilience and forms the ability to see meaning even in the most difficult circumstances), moral resilience (the ability to maintain internal integrity, to act without losing humanity even in situations of danger, loss or psychological pressure, as well as the ability to control fear, anger, anxiety, and not panic). An experimental study conducted among high school students allowed us to identify the attitude of senior grade students to military-patriotic education, involvement in military-patriotic activities, motivation, desire to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, choice of alternative service, competencies that could be needed during service in the army, etc.
